When it seems you are becoming more hurt, angrier, or more distant from the the most important person in your life, it is likely that your relationship could benefit from professional help. Should you decide to get that help from me, I will, from the first session, try to make the counseling sessions safe enough for each of you share any and all feelings that might be stirred by your partner's words or non-verbal behavior. I will also work towards throwing light on and changing how you communicate your most vulnerable feelings with one another. As therapy progresses, we will explore increasingly how various hurtful events from childhood and other previous relationships seem to be priming either of you to experience undue pain or to respond to your partner in a destructive manner. In most cases, focus on difficulties in communicating feelings, while examining age-old relational patterns, results in couples finding new and more rewarding ways to reestablish emotional intimacy with one another. I hope these few words will provide you with some ideas as to how relationship therapy might work. However, it is the actual experience of engaging in counseling sessions that will provide you with a real sense of whether this process can really help you create that deeper and more intimate connection you long for.
